Pastor Marc Donadille

Pastor Marc Donadille

France

Cevennes District, France... 1942 – Pastor Marc Donadille worked with CIMADE, the primary Protestant refugee welfare organization, which helped to care for Jews in the internment camps. CIMADE took Jews out of the camps, hid them with families, and helped them to cross the border into Switzerland.

Pastor Donadille rescued Jews from the internment camps, bringing them to Le Chambon-sur-Lignon and other Protestant villages in the mountains. He prepared false identification papers and other documents for the Jews. His home was raided by the Vichy police; luckily they did not find his materials for forging documents.

Marc’s brother was in charge of the railroad that went to Le Chambon and was instrumental in bringing Jews into Le Chambon and the surrounding villages.

Marc Donadille hid about 80 Jews and took another 100 to Le Chambon.
